Protection against hydrogen embrittlement
During surface preparation and electroplating, hydrogen can be absorbed into the steel. In susceptible materials, retained hydrogen may reduce ductility and increase the risk of delayed cracking under mechanical load.
Neo performs controlled post-plating heat treatment to reduce the risk of hydrogen embrittlement following hard chrome deposition. The roll is heated for a defined period at a carefully controlled temperature, promoting the diffusion of absorbed hydrogen out of the material.
The appropriate heat-treatment cycle is selected according to the roll material, hardness, dimensions, coating specification, and customer requirements. Process temperature and holding time are monitored to ensure consistent and repeatable results.
Benefits of Post-Plating Heat Treatment
- Reduced risk of hydrogen embrittlement
- Protection of the underlying roll material
- Improved reliability under mechanical load
- Controlled and monitored treatment cycles
- Integrated directly into the chrome plating process
- Processing according to customer specifications
