EDT Roll Texturing

Controlled electrical discharges create a uniform, repeatable surface texture on work rolls.

The strip surface begins with the roll

Electro Discharge Texturing (EDT) creates a controlled and repeatable surface texture on work rolls through a series of precisely controlled electrical discharges. During rolling, this microscopic texture is transferred from the roll onto the processed material.

The quality of the finished surface therefore begins with the roll. Uniform roughness and peak distribution are essential for achieving consistent appearance, forming behaviour, lubricant retention, and coating performance across the entire strip.

Neo operates next-generation EDT equipment. The technology allows us to precisely control critical surface parameters and reproduce the required texture consistently from roll to roll.

EDT is the established industry standard for work rolls used in the production of exposed automotive steel, appliance steel, electrical steel, flat-rolled aluminium for body panels, and selected glass applications.

Benefits of EDT Texturing

  • Uniform and repeatable roll texture
  • Precise control of roughness and peak distribution
  • Consistent texture transfer to the processed material
  • Improved forming and lubricant retention
  • Reliable surface preparation for coating and painting
  • Repeatable results across multiple rolls
