DLC Coating for Rolls

DLC is an extremely thin carbon-based coating with properties similar to diamond. The same family of coating technologies used to protect high-performance cutting tools and heavily loaded precision components can also be applied to the working surface of a roll.

The coating acts as microscopic carbon armour. Its combination of high hardness, wear resistance, and low friction helps reduce abrasive and adhesive wear, material build-up, and damage to the roll surface. This can extend roll service life, reduce maintenance requirements, and preserve consistent surface quality over longer production campaigns.

Different applications require different DLC compositions. The appropriate coating system is therefore selected according to the roll material, contact pressure, operating temperature, and processed product.
